This section deals with file management. We explain how to take backups. You can upload files with the Online File Manager if you are uploading only a few files. You can see your disk space usage. We provide you with an FTP account and tell you about some free FTP software so you can upload your files if you have a lot of files

Backups

You can read here how to create a backup of your website files. For files, archives, folders, directories you should normally use your FTP client of choice. For database backups, you have to use the built-in phpMyAdmin

How to create a backup:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in Backups (image 2)
  3. you’ll see the following

  4. For file backups you have to connect to the free hosting server with your FTP client of choice and copy your website’s htdocs directory to your personal computer
  5. For database backups you have to login to your control panel and open phpMyAdmin, connect to your website’s database and click the Export tab in the top menu, click the Go button at the bottom of the page and save it to your personal computer

Online File Manager

You should normally use your FTP client of choice but, what if you cannot install programs in your computer or device at the moment? You can use the browser based Online File Manager tool.

How to upload files with Online File Manager:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in Online File Manager (image 4)
  3. a new browser tab or a new browser window may come up, depending on your browser’s settings you will need to aprove this connection
  4. now you can see your root folder. Navigate to the domain directoy you want to operate, go inside htdocs folder and upload your files ALWAYS to htdocs directory. Please note that if you have not added any domain/subdomain then you will just have one htdocs directory inside your root folder. Either way, upload your files ALWAYS to htdocs directory. Click in htdocs

  5. press Upload button in the horizontal bar
    click upload button
  6. press Browse button and select the file you want to upload from your computer (a new browser tab or a new browser window may come up, depending on your browser’s settings you will need to aprove it) and click Open button

  7. click in Add another button to upload another file and repeat previous step
    click add another button
  8. click in the green tic-mark and yes, MAKE SURE you click in the green tic-mark!

If you want to upload a compressed archive (zip, tar, tgz, gz) use the box to the right and proceed as in steps 5 and 6. Confirm you want to unzip selected files by clicking in green tic-mark. A processing status message will be displayed. Click in the blue arrow to go back to your directory tree.

To delete files click the square box to the left of the file and/or directory you want to remove and click Delete button. Confirm you want to delete selected files and folders by clicking in green tic-mark. A message will be displayed with processing status. Click in the blue arrow to go back to directory tree.

Disk Space Usage

This section shows a pie chart with the disk space being used over the disk space quota

  1. login to your control panel
  2. Click the Disk Space Usage icon (image 10)
  3. You’ll see the following data
    disk space usage
  4. The top line shows your:
  • Disk Quota
  • Disk space used
  • Disk Free
  • Inodes Used

Warning: keep an eye on the Inodes used. If you reach 99% you will not be able to upload new files to your website. You will need to delete older files before uploading any new files.

FTP Accounts

This section shows the information needed to establish an FTP connection

  1. login to your control panel
  2. Click the FTP Accounts icon (image 12)
  3. You’ll see the following information
    ftp accounts info
  4. This table shows your:
  • FTP User Name: mipc_12345
  • FTP Password: the same as your control panel password
  • FTP Host Name: ftp.mipropia.com
  • FTP Port: 21

Free FTP Software

Here we suggest a few FTP clients to transfer your files into your PC

  1. login to your control panel
  2. Click the Free FTP Software icon (image 14)
  3. You’ll see the following recommendations

  • SmartFTP (Windows)
  • CoreFTP (Windows)
  • FileZilla (Windows, Linux, Mac)
  • Cyberduck (Mac)
  • WinSCP (Windows)
