SubDomains

Subdomains are a great way to divide and organise your website. If you have your own domain you can set up a new subdomain for your blog such as blog.example.com. Likewise for a forum such as forum.example.com. If you don’t have your own domain, you can create subdomains under mipropia.com as long as those you choose aren’t taken.

How to create a new subdomain:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in SubDomains (image 2)
  3. type your new subdomain (blog, for this example) in the box
    create subdomain form
  4. click in Create button

How to remove a subdomain:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in SubDomains (image 4)
  3. find the subdomain you want to get rid of
    delete subdomain form
  4. click in Delete button to the right

Please note that after removing a subdomain everything under that subdomain will be PERMANENTLY deleted. Things such as files, MX records, CNAME records will be wiped out and there is no possibility to get those back. Back-up everything before removing a subdomain.

Addon Domains

First and foremost, you really have to have a domain name of your own (.COM, .NET, .ORG, .CU.CC, etc…) prior to using this feature. You need to go to your registrar (GoDaddy, 1and1, iFastNet, whichever) and change your NS settings or NameServers to ns1.mipropia.com and ns2.mipropia.com. You can easily add and maintain several domains and subdomains within your free hosting account.

How to add a domain

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in Addon Domains (image 6)
  3. write down the nameservers listed at the bottom of the image: ns1.mipropia.com and ns2.mipropia.com

    add domain form
  5. click in Add Domain button

  7. change your NS settings to or add the new NameServers ns1.mipropia.com and ns2.mipropia.com in the selected domain
  8. Your registrar should provide some help if you ask them about this issue. You may need to search in The Internet something like How to change godaddy NS or How to change 1and1 nameservers. Instead of nameservers, try also with server names, host names or NS

It may take up to 24/72 hours for the propagation of your domain. In most cases domains are fully propagated in less than 2 hours. If it takes longer than 4 hours then you can try the following:

Redirects

With this extremely useful tool you can create a redirection from one URL to a different one. If you change the URL of one of your pages you may lose traffic from visitors that saved or bookmarked your old URL. You can create here a redirection from the old URL to the new one

How to create a redirect:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in Redirects (image 14)
  3. select a domain from the drop down menu
  4. click in Alter Redirects button
    create redirects
  5. type in the old URL and the new URL for the redirection to work

This tool just creates a new rule and inserts it into your .htaccess file:

Redirect 301 /old-url.html /new-url.html

You can also do this yourself by hand. Download your own .htaccess to your computer via FTP. Add as many lines as needed

Redirect 301 /old-url-2.html /new-url-2.html
Redirect 301 /old-url-3.html /new-url-3.html

If you make mistakes in your live .htaccess file your website may throw a 500 Error. In this case, delete the .htaccess file and check it thoroughly for any typo or mistake in your syntax.

How to remove a redirect:

  1. login to your control panel
  2. click in Redirects (image 16)
  3. select a domain from the drop down menu and click in Alter Redirects button
  4. select the redirection that you want to delete and click in Delete button

Get a free cu.cc domain

You can get a free .cu.cc domain. These domains are very useful because you can learn how to manage a domain before committing to a paid domain (image 17)

The free .cu.cc domains are not exactly real domains, but subdomains instead. The important feature is that you can make your .cu.cc subdomain behave as a domain and control your NS settings.
